Description:
***   High grade Spanish 12 gauge sidelock ejector game gun with 30” barrels. Marked “M – 8” on the trigger guard and “A.M.” on the water table. Nice, crisp engraving and 98% of the original case coloring. Despite the “no name” aspect of this piece it has all the hallmarks of a high grade double: seven pin sidelocks, articulated front trigger, rolled edge trigger guard, disc set strikers, and hidden third fastener. Also has auto safety, double triggers, and selective automatic ejectors. The photos do not do justice to the vibrance of the case coloring. Weighs 6lb 12oz so easy to carry for a day afield.   ***   The 30” steel barrels have auto ejectors and are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells. They are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. It is inscribed “Made to Order for M. D. Popoff”. The bores are shiny and bright. The bluing shows some wear and a few scratches and a professionally repaired dent near the left muzzle. The right barrel is bored 0.734 with a constriction of 0.20 for Modified choke. The left barrel is bored 0.728 and has a constriction of 0.030 for Full choke.   ***   The stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured Spanish walnut. The finish shows some wear as does the checkering. There are two small cut-outs on both sides of the splinter forearm where it meets the barrels(see photos). I am not sure of the purpose of these but it was obviously done purposely by a competent gunsmith. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” by 1-3/8” by 2”. Slightly cast off for the righthanded shooter.   ***   So what do we have here? A high grade Spanish sidelock for which we cannot identify the maker. It is a quality gun, however, and the price reflects the lack of an identifiable maker. It would make a great hunting gun for the discerning buyer who knows value when he sees it.  ***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I am an FFL and will need a copy of your dealer’s FFL. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.
