Listed in Smith & 's new book "The American Martial Flintlock", this very handsome brass barrelled flintlock is characteristic of those made by such makers as this one, H. Young of New York city, on contract to various state militias and also for private sales to individuals.14" overall with 8 1/2" brass round smooth bore .58 caliber barrel. Bears "Birmingham Company of Gunmakers" proof marks on the left breech, indicating that the barrel was made in England. The stock and mounts are of classic New York or New England design typical of the period. The flat lock plate is sparsely engraved at the tang and bears the stamping "H.Young" forward of the hammer. The stock is exceptionally clean and nice with a crisp, even finish overall. Original wood ramrod. The brass mounts and barrel have a nice even mellow color. The lock and hammer are bright and extremely crisp.
