Description:
World War II THIRD REICH German MAUSER “byf” Code “43” Model 98 C&R Rifle

Germany’s Infantry Rifle in WW2

Here we present a C&R German Mauser Oberndorf “byf” Code “43” Model 98 Rifle manufactured circa 1943. This is an example of a mid-World War II K98 rifle that was manufactured at the Mauser factory in Oberndorf, Germany. Oberndorf has a long history of producing military small arms. Founded in 1811 by King Frederich the First of Wuerttemberg as an arsenal to produce muskets for his army, the facility was typical of many factories that sprang up during the Industrial Revolution. Mauser acquired the plant in 1871 and was the First Mauser Plant acquired which was located in Oberndorf, Germany.
In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles. At the start of World War II, the Führer demanded that the factory produce 70,000 Mauser rifles a month, and it delivered them with the help of 5,000 forced laborers from across Europe.

The overall condition is good. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The muzzle has been counter-bored and has a slight swell to it. The laminate stock is solid and has been sanded. The numbers match on the barrel, receiver, barrel bands, rear sight, and magazine; however, the numbers on the bolt do not match.
