SPECIAL ORDER 1894 .38-55 CALIBER RIFLE WITH HALF OCTAGON BARREL AND HALF MAGAZINE, #506XXX, MADE 1911. In my experience, most half octagon/half mag 1894 rifles were made in .30 WCF or .32 WCF with .32-40 and .38-55 like this one scarce. This one shows fine barrel blue with some ageing and lightly mixingin brown in the round section. The left side of the receiver retains most of the bright blue with the right side showing fine blue except for some gray mainly above the loading gate and on the bolt from carry. Markings and screws are excellent. The butt stock and forend are generally excellent with tight wood to metal fit and one small filled sling swivel hold in the bottom of the butt stock- minor. Tight action, fine blue on the loading gate, Marbles buckhorn rear sight and matching Marbles blade/ivory bead front sight. Best of all a MIRROR BRIGHT MINTY BORE. A fine 112 year old special order Winchester in a great caliber.
