Interestingly, this caliber was Theodore Roosevelts favorite for antelope hunting on his Western ranch. This is a fine example with the receiver showing fine thinned and aged blue mixing with some brown and gray. It retains the original dust cover and the brass lifter is unpolished and caliber engraved. The barrel blue has naturally aged and thinned to gray/brown with excellent markings. It is fitted with the desirable sporting ladder with slide intact rear sight and Lyman blade/bead front sight. All barrel and tang markings are sharp and clear. The magazine tube is an uncleaned aged gray/brown. The wood is generally fine+ showing only very light handling and good wood to metal fit. The action is tight with a solid half cock safety on the hammer and good blue on the loading gate. The bore is a lit.tle dark and shows light wear with some surface corrosion toward the middle of the bore with good rifling throughout. This is an attractive big 141 year old Winchester.
