Factory Engraved 1899 Savage Rifle in .303 caliber. Documented with factory letter from Cody Museum. Very unusual letter and gun. This rifle started out in 30-30 caliber octagon barrel, then 1/2 octagon, and then back to octagon. Style A engraving with Special Stock. The letter also mentions Shot, was it a smooth bore at one time? Standard octagon barrel length of 26". Standard correct and original front and rear sights. Extra dovetail cut into the barrel (probably for a scope)? Both forend and buttstock are in good condition showing a couple period repairs. Very unusual buttstock configuration. The forend, buttstock, and barrel match the serial number on the receiver. The buttplate is a replacement and has another serial number stamped into it. Bore shows good rifling and I will rate it a 7 on a scale from 1 to 10. Engraving on receiver is still very presentable. All in all an unusual factory documented engraved 1899 Savage Rifle. Yes it has some issues but still very desirable. One of the rarest things about this rifle is it letters from the factory. It's very difficult to find records of 1899 Savage rifle with special features. Please feel free to ask questions. Must ship to a FFL or Curio and Relics license holder.
