Serial No. 4681, circa 1895-1897 by DWM, 7x57mm, 29"" round barrel. Bore is good with minor frosting visible in the grooves, rifling remains strong. Stock has been lightly sanded at one point. Right side is marked ""J.S. VANDEMERWE"". Records show Van Der Merwe was part of the Kroonstad Commando and was captured on February 7th 1902 in Paardekraal. Van Der Merwe would pass away at the age of 13 a month later at a Bombay Hospital of Pneumonia. Serial numbers are matching, left side has a beautiful carving as seen on Boer rifles!
