Description:
This rare Mannlicher Model 1896 or 1897 depending on what historic literature is referenced is in great condition overall retaining 90% of its original bluing, and having just a slight patina or loss of the original wood checkering on the pistol grips. Acquired through a private collector this pistol has a very prestigious history behind its design and manufacture. Originally designed for military use in the 1890s as a simple blowback semi-automatic pistol chambered in 7.63x23mm with both a fixed 7 round magazine and a later designed detachable 6 round magazine, both models capable of accepting a stripper clip via the top access of the reciprocating barrel and slide design. Turned down by the Swiss military, the newer design that incorporated the 6 round box magazine became available on the civilian market chambered in both 7.63x23mm and 7.65x23mm. This particular model from what I can ascertain is chambered in the original iteration 7.63x25mm, and features the 6 round removable magazine, adjustable front dovetail style sight post with fixed rear black u-notch sight, and lanyard sling. The barrel, slide, trigger, and bolt are all stamped with the matching serial number 259, making this pistol highly collectable. The barrel has some slight corrosion and is a bit frosted with the action working properly and smoothly with the metal having just minor handling marks and bluing loss from use. None
