Description:
The Sig Sauer P226 is one the world’s most famous pistols and has seen service all over the world, most notably with the U.S. Navy Seals. It was originally created for the U.S. Army’s 1984 pistol trials to find a replacement for the famous 1911A1 pistol. Of the participants, only the P226 and Beretta’s 92SBF passed the trials. Ultimately, the Beretta won out purely due to a lower total package price. This has left a wake of endless arguments ever since. Despite the loss, the P226 was ultimately selected by the U.S. Navy Seals as the P226 Mk 25 variant with a special finish for resistance to corrosion. The P226 would also eventually replace the original 9mm-chambered versions of the P220 in production. As the latter pistol held only 9 rounds of 9mm, it’s easy to see why the P220 in 9mm was discontinued. The P226’s excellent ergonomics, weight, and balance make it very easy to handle. The pistol simply feels natural in the hand. The example shown here is a brand-new-the-box Mk 25 model. Aside from the special finish, there are other features which distinguish the Mk 25 from the P226. One is the silver Navy anchor and UID sticker on the left-hand side of the slide and frame, respectively. The Mk 25’s frame features a true standard 1913 picatinny rail versus the rounded Sig rails on the P226. The Mk 25 uses standard polymer 2-piece grip panels vs the 226’s E2 Monogrip. The Mk 25 also comes with three 15-round magazines while the P226 only comes with two. The MK 25 is one of the finest pistols ever manufactured. If you are looking for a high quality duty gun or home defense pistol, the Mk 25 is a superb choice.
