Description:
This is an early Merwin Hulbert Large Frame Revolver built during the late 1870's for frontier usage. 7" Barrel, Early Open Top Frame with Scooped Flutes, Nickel Plated Finish with Square/Saw Handle Butt with Lanyard.  It's chambered in 44-40 which is denoted on the left side of the frame as CALIBRE WINCHESTER 1873 which was also called the Frontier Cartridge as it was an early reloadable center round that was used in both repeating rifles and revolvers.  Merwin Hulbert & Company Revolvers were manufactured by Hopkins and Allen so you'll find their address on the left side of the barrel and the M&H Patents on top.  Overall, this one is in Very Good Plus Condition and is completely untouched attic condition.  It will clean up if desired but it has a great look to it just the way it is.  Overall, the barrel retains 50% streaky original nickel plating with the balane turned to an untouched brown patina.  The cylinder has streaked down to about 35% original nickel with the balance a smooth patina.  Frame is 75% original nickel with a 50/50% mix of nickel and patina on the gripstraps.  The action works nicely and these Merwins have a very unique system for reloading where the barrel/cylinder assembly rotate 90 degrees to the right on their axis (cylinder pin) and then slide forward exposing the chambers on the back of the cylinder. Still has a little bit of suction.  Catridges can also be loaded via a loading gate on the right side of the recoil shield.  The mechanics are in good shape and the bore is Very Good overall with strong lands and grooves with no rings or bulges.  The checkered hard rubber grips are in Very Good Condition with decent checkering..a little worn in 2 small spots on the left panel with no chips, cracks, or repairs.  A very respectable Merwin from the late 1870's when the American West truly was The Wild West!  Best of all, these Merwins can be had for a fraction of the price of an early Single Action Army Colt.  Antique, Pre-1898. No FFL Required under Federal Law however state and local laws will vary.  We cannot ship to NY, NJ, DC, Chicago, HI, or anywhere that prohibits antique firearms.  Sorry, No International Sales.  $30.00 shipping.
