Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: ONE OF ONLY 862 MADE IS THIS SINGLE SHOT .22 LR TARGET MODEL 1891 WITH DOUBLY RARE 6" BARREL. This uusual model was made on the 1891 Single Action .38 S&W caliber revolver frame (a rare model in its own right!) and retains the protruding recoil shield on the frame that would normally only be found on a revolver. Later models of the S&W single shot target pistol don't have this- a quick way to tell an antique Model 1891 from later guns. They were made in 6", 8" and 10" barrel lengths with the 6" the most scarce. All numbers match on this one (#14XXX) and it is listed by exact serial number in the book Smith & Wesson 1857-1945 by Neal and Jinks. This example retains the target front and rear sights and is a blue finish pistol. This one was obviously not used by a serious target shooter as the "projections" on the top of the hard rubber grips have been removed and there are four "kill notches" on the front portion of the grips below the front strap- one can only wonder! Good blue in the protected areas of the frame and rear portion of the barrel etc. with the balance mixing an uncleaned gray/brown. Correct "Model of 91" barrel marking along with the usual S&W markings. Looks like one screw on the left side of the frame above the grips has had the head turned off it. Good case color on the hammer sides. Fine action and barrel lock-up. Bore is good, but shows some scattered roughness. There can't be more than a couple hundred ever made with this short barrel length. This one came out of Arizona and I'm sure there are a load of adventures associated with it!
