Description:
Here we have a minty and all-original 1983-production Smith & Wesson Model 19-5 .357 Magnum revolver in excellent condition overall.  The DA/SA Smith & Wesson Model 19 revolver chambered in .357 Magnum was first introduced in 1957 and was built on their K-sized (medium) frame.  It was offered in a gloss blue or nickel plated finish with a 4" inch barrel only, but could be had with a target hammer, a target trigger, and with target grips as options.  By the 2nd engineering change when it became the S&W Model 19-2, it was offered in 3 barrel lengths of 2.5", 4", and 6" inches in the same nickel or gloss blue finish as before.  The optional target hammer, trigger, and grips also remained available.  By that time there was no doubt that the S&W Model 19 was a great design, and it quickly became one of the most popular models with civilians, law officers, and target shooters alike. These revolvers were all built with a very high degree of fit and finish that S&W took pride in, and they were VERY handsome in any finish or barrel length.  The Model 19 had great proportions, was capable of great accuracy, had great ergonomics, and had an extremely smooth and precise action that was also extremely reliable.  The medium-sized frame made the gun a nice weight that was easy to carry while hiking, hunting, or working on the farm, and the 6-shot cylinder could handle everything from very light .38 Special target ammo to full-patch .357 Magnum hollow point cartridges made for hunting and self-defense.  Quite a few people who owned Registered .357 Magnums, Non-registered .357 Magnums, Pre-Model 27s, Model 27's, and Model 28s (which were all built on the heavier and larger N-frame), found that the Model 19 was a MUCH BETTER choice for self-defense, home-defense, hunting, and plinking because of several factors.  The most prevalent of these factors was it's more managable size and weight, and it's better overall ergonomics.  An all stainless-steel version of the Model 19, called the Model 66 was introduced in 1971 and it also became very popular.   The Model 19 would go thru 8 engineering changes during it's production run, which ended in 1999.
This particular example is Model 19-5, with the "dash 5" indicating that this revolver has the 5th engineering changes incorporated into it.  It is really a beautiful gun that is in excellent condition overall, showing only some VERY minor tiny spots of finish wear along with some VERY minor handling and storage marks.  It appears to have had maybe 50 to 100 rounds fired thru at the very most.  The front face of the cylinder shows only the very lightest of flash halos on it and the forcing cone is in perfect shape.  The cylinder shows a VERY faint drag-line around it, so light that you have just the right light and hold it at the right angle to see most of it.  The 6 inch barrel has a mirror-bright bore with strong and sharp rifling from the forcing cone to the crown of the muzzle.  There are ZERO visible imperfections in the bore.  The 6 chambers of the cylinder are equally as clean and free from wear or damage.  The factory adjustable sights consist of a ramped patridge-style front sight and an adjustable all-black rear blade with a square-shaped notch, both of which are in like-new condition. The factory Target-style grips on this Smith are checkered American Walnut with S&W medallions, and they are just as handsome and free from wear as the rest of the gun.  Neither grip panel has any visible cracks, repairs, chips, or major dings/damage, and they both fit the gun extremely well with no wiggle.  The action has to be felt to truly be appreciated, but it is certainly smooth, slick, precise, and in perfect-time no matter how the the gun is operated.  All of the controls on this S&W are in perfect working order.  This very handsome Model 19-5 would be a great addition to any S&W or wheelgun collection, as well as a great long-term investment.
