RARE FIND…AN ITHACA KNICKERBOCKER MODEL GRADE 4E HAND ENGRAVED AND SIGNED BY THE MASTER HIMSELF, BILL MCGRAW. William McGraw was Ithaca’s best engraver (and one of America’s best from all makers) starting in 1907 and retiring in 1968. McGraw engraved for presidents, kings, movie stars, and even Annie Oakley! To own a high-condition Ithaca Knick signed by McGraw is a very rare to add a historically important piece to your shooting collection. The Ithaca Gun Co. produced the most iconic trap gun ever invented, the Knickerbocker Single Barrel Trap Gun. In production from 1922 until the last Knick was made in 1982, 5740 were produced. By 1935 the Knick in the hands of able shooters won the Grand American Handicap six times, by 1976 was responsible for over 25% of the total wins at the Grand American and has been the most well-known and most sought-after single barrel trap gun in American history. The Knick we show here, sn404821 built in 1961, is in excellent condition, with 99% vivid factory case color, 100% rust blue, and beautifully figured wood with excellent checkering recently restored by Vintage Firearms with a hand-rubbed oil finish. The mechanics are superb, with a 3.75 crisp trigger pull and well-timed ejector, barrel tight on the hinge pin and breech face, top lever way to the right of center, and excellent screws properly clocked on the axis of the gun. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning we stripped the action and forend iron to the smallest part, cleaned all in the Ultrasonic cleaner, scrubbed each part and inspected all for function and integrity, properly lubricated and reassembled. VFI CERTIFIED guns have a 90-day mechanical warranty (a $375 service in our shop). How often do you find a fully intact, “as shipped” trap gun that hasn’t been doctored up and altered? This awesome Knickerbocker is completely tuned, inspected, lubricated, and ready to perform. There is nothing that needs to be done to this gun except take it to the club and show your trap friends why the Ithaca Knickerbocker was such an amazing trap gun. With its 4” long tapered choke these older guns pattern far better than most modern guns. The Knick will compete side by side with any Krieghoff, Kolar, or Perazzi for the trophy at your next shoot. Hand engraved and elaborately hand checkered, a modern trap gun so adorned would cost well over $15,000. You can have this beautiful Ithaca for a small fraction of that price! Thanks for looking.
