Description:

Fabulous Terrence A. Smith. Late of Boss & Co. 13-14 Cork St. London 12 Gauge round body sidelock two barrel set with 28" and 25" chopper lump ejector barrels all with bores as new and all measuring .729 as London proved in 1981. Chambers proved 2 3/4". Concave game ribs with makers name inlayed in gold and double gold bands at the breech end. The 25" barrels are choked R- .008(IC) and L- .022(M). The 28" barrels choked R- .010(IC) and L- .031(F). The coin finished bar action round body sidelock action has bushed strikers and cocking indicators. It has full coverage engraving with deep relief vine engraving on the fences and bulino game scene engraving on the sides and floorplate. Pheasants on the left, Woodcock on the right, and Bobwhite on the floorplate with a Turkey on the trigger guard and English Setter on the top lever. Pictures do not do justice to the quality of the engraving. Stocked in the English style with 28 LPI point pattern checkering and a small beavertail forend using a very nice piece of European Walnut. LOP is 14 1/2" over a leather covered pad.  DAC - 1 5/8"  DAH - 2 3/8"  Cast off 1/4"  Weight is 6lb 12oz with 25" barrels and 7lb 1oz with 28" barrels. Cased in a French fitted Marvin Huey oak and leather trunk case with nickel plated snap caps and brass cleaning rod, oil bottle, brush, and turnscrew.

Terrence A. Smith was a highly talented London gunmaker who uniquely served consecutive full apprenticeships to Boss and Holland & Holland in the 1960's. At Boss he apprenticed under Bill Wise who in turn apprenticed under Bob Henderson who designed the Boss over and under. At Holland & Holland he apprenticed under renowned double rifle maker Bill Keniston. Sadly Mr. Smith passed in December of 2021.
This is a London best gun in every respect. Round body sidelock action, bushed strikers, cocking indicators, chopper lump barrels, and stocked to the fences. This is a very well done piece with lots of eye appeal. The stock has a number of slight impressions from light hunting use. Barrel blue remains at 99+% for both barrels. It is very tight and appears to have been shot very little. Just an outstanding upland game piece!
