A Rare U.S. Navy Issued Model 1860 Civil War Spencer Rifle In Fine Plus Untouched Condition Identified Directly By Serial Number Shipped To The Washington Navy Yard In Early August 1863. Serial #10,000, Only 200 like this one were ordered and delivered with socket bayonets. These rifles were made without bayonet lugs. This was the second navy contract. The first contract was for 700 which did have bayonet lugs on them, and used saber bayonets. The rifle has excellent metal, markings and edges. The barrel retains nearly all of its original factory blue on it. The bands have a mix of original colors mixing with a plum patina. The frame, and hammer all have an even fine natural patina with original case colors mixing through them in areas. The breech has vivid case colors on it when dropped down. The lever and butt plate have a nice even natural patina on them. The wood on the rifle is excellent throughout with fine edges. it has a wonderful color to it and still retains its natural finish on it. The action and bore are both excellent plus. This Is A Very Fine Example Of A Rare U.S. Navy Issued Model 1860 Civil War Spencer Rifle Directly Identified By Serial Number To Have Been Delivered To The Washington Navy Yard In 1863. It would Be A Great Addition To Any Fine Collection!
