An Early And Very Desirable U.S. Civil War Percussion Sharps Carbine Identified To "Co. D, Of The 10th Ohio Vol. Cavalry" In Very Good Untouched Condition. Serial #48,464 which is an exact match to the gun and identifies the carbine to have been directly issued to, "Co. D of the 10th Ohio Vol. Cavalry. All original and complete. The carbine has very good metal, markings, and edges on it. All of the metal is untouched with a a natural darkening patina on it. The wood on the carbine is in good condition showing narural wear as expected for an Id'ed carbine used in the civil war. There is an old civil war period hairline check in the wood in the top of the tang. Theis check is very tight and would not affect the carbines use. It has a very good rifled bore and action.
The 10th Ohio Cavalry had very good civil war history and was in 79 battles and skirmishes during the war. They were engaged in all of General kilpatrick's movements during Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. Some of the main battles were: Chickamauga, Ga, Cosby Creek, Tn, Tunnel Hill, Seige Of Atlanta, Jonesboro, sweetwater, bear creek station, Waynesboro, Ga, Aiken, S.C., Monroe Cross Roads, and Averasboro, N.C. The regiment lost in battle 3 officers, and 39 enlisted men. They did not muster out until July 24, 1865.
