Payment Types Accepted: Description: Here for sale is serial number 93, U.S. Model 1868 trapdoor Springfield. This rifle's breech block is stamped 1868, which is the year it was assembled at Springfield Armory. There are currently just 24 such rifles known to've survived out of the estimated 150 rifles made in 1868 and that are so dated. Some of those have been sporterized long ago. There are only 15 and possibly 16 such early 1868's in private collections today. The owners of them are a small fraternity. 1868's made in and dated 1868 are extremely rare. One could live a lifetime and never see or have a chance to buy one. I have not attempted to clean this rifle or it's bore. However the rifling appears sharp. This 1868 is sound and complete. This rifle, like some of the others, has the updated rear sight which suggests that this rifle, like probably most of the 1868/1868's, was issued. Because I didn't have to pay that much for this rifle, I'm pricing it much lower than it's actually worth. If it doesn't sell, then I'll just happily keep it. I recently sold another such 1868 made 1868 for about $5,000.00 that was in almost identical condition to this one. This rifle is a steal. A sleeper. The sling does Not come with the rifle. I'll accept a Personal Check or a USPS Money Order. Packaging and full Insurance and Shipping will be paid by the buyer. $150.00 SOLD Antique: Yes Serial Number: 93 |
