The action is strong in both half and full cock with a working set trigger.The early style extractor sometimes sticks and probably needs some tlc I do not know the caliber ,the bottom of the barrel has a small 44 and the barrel indeed looks to be of that caliber.The stock and forearm are walnut and still have original finish and other than small dings and marks of one and a half centuries of use are in very good condition with no cracks or major defects.A well cared for veteran of the early frontier this gun in a rare configuration is a great collector piece as well as a shooter with proper black powder ammunition.
