Payment Types Accepted: Cashiers Check, USPS Money Order Description: You are viewing a Werder "Lightening" Model 1869 Bavarian Cavalry pistol, which is a single-shot falling-block pistol using a proprietary 11.5mm cartridge. It is a fairly large, heavy pistol with a ribbed barrel and blade front sight. The rear sight is a notch in a channel on the rear of the pistol. The sides of the body are flat with reinforcing ribs. The trigger guard contains the single-action trigger and an opposed lever which operates the action, simultaneously dropping the breech block and operating the ejectors. A protrusion on the top right of the pistol simultaneously cocks the hammer and raises the breech block ready to fire. Grips are smooth wood, and a lanyard loop is fitted to the butt. Adding a personal touch, it looks like a soldier attempted to checker his own grip on the right side, which was clearly done "back in the day". It makes sense, as the right side is the most-contacted part of the grip for a right-handed person. The left side would only host the thumb. The speed with which one could shoot the pistol gave rise to its nickname 'Bavarian lightning'. This example is dated 1872 at the back of the pistol and all serial numbers are matching. The Serial Number can even be found on the right grip, below the checkering. This pistol is in far better condition than most other examples that are out there. It operates properly, with no loose or missing parts. The internals appear to be in very good condition and the bore is shiny, with well-defined rifling. This is especially amazing, in light of the fact that this is a Black Powder cartridge pistol, which is very corrosive. Check out the photos. This speaks to the fact that this pistol was carried around, but experienced very light usage. Regimental markings are stamped into the right side of the receiver, which can be researched. Please view the close-up photos; they tell the best story. Can be shipped directly to the purchaser, without the need for an FFL. There is no "Buy Now" on this listing.
