Description:
This rifle is somewhat of an enigma. The receivers serial number dates the gun to 1940 however, Winchester ceased making .38-55 barrels in 1930 according to the Winchester Book by George Madis although, some of these barrels remained on hand for many years. The barrel is not a nickel steel version and the stamping is on the top flat which was changed to the left on octagonal barrels later in production. Nevertheless, this rifle deserves more detailed research per the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. .38-55 Winchester
