Description: Springfield 1884 Trapdoor chambered in .45-70 Government. The Springfield model 1884 is the improved version of the Model 1873. They are known as "Trapdoor Springfield" rifles. The improvements include new rear sights and changes to the Lock Work. The Model 1884 was designed to handle the newer .45-70-500 cartridge--the same used in the Gatling Gun--whose heavier bullet provided for more complete combustion of powder in the barrel. The Trapdoor remained the longarm of the U.S. Armed Forces until replaced by the bolt-action repeating rifle known as the Krag-Jorgensen in 1892. .45-70 Government SOLD Metal Condition: Very good Wood Condition: Very good with numerous handling marks Bore Condition: Dark with strong rifling Barrels: 32 Inches Triggers: Factory Stock Dimensions: LOP 13 1/4 Inches Fore End: Smooth walnut Butt Pad: Metal Sights: Adjustable ladder sight Item Location: La Vista, NE |
