R. Davis Freetownt, Massachusetts and sold by Iver johnson, Boston. It was made on Davis’s patent of Aug. 3, 1886. I have not seen it reported that Davis made a gun for Iver Johnson. But it is an excellent example of that company’s production. It survives in marvelous condition. It locks up tight as new. Case color is gone and the action has some dark spots but is free of rust, scratches or other blemishes. The floorplate is engraved “CHAMPION” in a diamond and the butt-plate also marked “CHAMPION”. There are no proof marks or identifiers except a “1” stamped on the action flats. The 32” London Twist barrels retain an even brown finish, are free of dents, are choked full & full, and the bores are bright as new but have a few miner blemishes. The original stock varnish is 99% with only a small chip out of the toe. Measurements are: Chambers 2 ¾”; LOP = 14”, DC = 1 ¾”, & DH 3”. I grade the gun as Antique Excellent.
