They were also used for guard duty in areas such as ports and airfields. The left side of the receiver is marked "P/flaming bong" and stamped "U.S." The 26-inch round barrel is stamped with a "P" and a small ordnance flaming "bomb" stamped between the model designation and the edge of the receiver. The barrel has a 2 3/4-inch chamber and is has a full choke. The U.S. War Department purchased over 14,500 Savage Model 720 shotguns. This Model 720 has had the original butt plate replaced with a Pachmayr White Line recoil pad.
