Description:
The US Military contracted with Savage to produce the Savage Model 720 chambered in 12 Gauge to train aerial gunners as trap and skeet were found to be excellent low-cost methods of teaching proper lead on moving targets. They were also used for guard duty in areas such as ports and airfields. The left side of the receiver is marked "P/flaming bong" and stamped "U.S." The 26-inch round barrel is stamped with a "P" and a small ordnance flaming "bomb" stamped between the model designation and the edge of the receiver. The barrel has a 2 3/4-inch chamber and is has a full choke. The U.S. War Department purchased over 14,500 Savage Model 720 shotguns. This Model 720 has had the original butt plate replaced with a Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. The shotgun is in good condition and does not appear to have been reblued. 12 Gauge
