Antique Flintlock CAVALRY PISTOL Large Bore .64 Caliber Holster Horse Belt
Marked with GERMAN “CROWN/V” Proofs at the Breech
Here we present an antique German Proofed Flintlock Cavalry Pistol, made circa the late-18th Century. This was a large, single shot pistol with a metal pommel that could be used as a club when the single shot was expended. Flintlock pistols were used as both military and self-defense weapons. Their effective range was much shorter than a musket and they were frequently used in combination with sword. This also could have been purchased privately by an officer and carried into battle to use as a back up to his primary weapon. This one is still quite business-minded but does have some tasteful décor on the cast brass hardware that sets this one off.
The overall condition is good. Gray patina on the steel. The action is excellent. Original flintlock. The bore is smooth and dim with some light pitting throughout. The stock shows quality repairs around the ramrod tube, around the lock, and around the pommel cap. The pierced sideplate has been reconnected in the middle.
