For sale is a Harrison Bros. of Birmingham, London, England 12 bore side by side shotgun.
This London gunmakers name is known for making English shotguns that were were sent to other well known gunmakers in the white, unengraved without names and serial numbers. The guns were then finished and the sellers name added as well as serial numbers. As an example, Hellis guns were of highly regarded quality, and mostly finished by them after being received from other makers and then proofed at the Birmingham Proof House. Other better know gunmakers such as G&H Holloway, S Wright & Sons, Harrison Bros., and Bently & Playfair were known for furnishing guns to other well know makers of the time. The Harrison Bros. being listed for sale is a example of fine English gun making. Mirror clean bores, unblemished blue barrels, strong ejectors, tight and on face lockup, lever very very slight of center, but very tight lockup, scroll engraving on the receiver and trigger guard and tang. Harrison Bros. name, stock and forearm with very nice grain and character. No cast off or cast on. Barrel flats marked as seen on photos. Nitro proof. Chamber lengths are marked both 2 1/2 and 2 3/4. Length may have been changed when barrel was sleeved. Sleeving is hard to see without looking very closely. Since I only use 2 1/2 inch shells in all my vintage doubles, its did not make a difference to me as to chamber length. Choked Modified and Improved Cylinder. LOP 15” including 1/2” wood stock extension in very good condition. Inirtial plate unmarked. Thumbs safety functions as should.
This is a fine example of an English double from the 1940’s that will afford many years of huntng or shooting.
