Description:
Here we have a beautiful vintage semi-auto Chinese Poly Tech AK-47 rifle chambered in 7.62x39 caliber. The AK-47, officially known as the Avtomat Kalashnikova 'Kalashnikov's automatic [rifle]'; also known as the Kalashnikov or just AK), is a gas-operated assault rifle that is chambered for the 7.62×39mm cartridge. Developed in the Soviet Union by Russian small-arms designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, it is the originating firearm of the Kalashnikov (or "AK") family of rifles. After more than seven decades since its creation, the AK-47 model and its variants remain one of the most popular and widely used firearms in the world.  China quickly realized the superb qualities of the AK platform, and using the Russian AK model as a base, develped their own version of the AK called the Type 56.  The Chinese Type 56 was adopted by the Chinese Armed forces in 1956 and it remained in service until the mid 1980's when they adopted a 2nd generation improved version of the AK that combined the best features found on the AK-47, the SKS, and the Dragunov that was named the Type 81.  In the 30 years that the Type 56 was in service, it proved it's mettle many times over and secured it's status as one of the best select-fire military rifles of all time.  The company that made this AK, Poly Technologies, is a state-owned company, founded by the People's Liberation Army of China in 1984 to provide competition to Norinco, another state owned weapons manufacturing company.  By the late 1980's Poly Tech had focused their efforts on building select-fire military weapons for contract sales to foreign militaries and semi-auto commercial weapons for export sales to the U.S..  This would make them one of the largest arms exporters in the world.  They would end up exporting a relatively small number of semi-auto AK's into the U.S. in the early 90's but soon were put under strict limitations by the 1994 Assualt Weapons Ban, essentially ending the importation of these AK's.   Polytech was able to get a few more shipments in by having the importers bringing them into the U.S. remove some banned features and model names on them to make them legal but even this was stopped fairly quickly.  It was because of this ban that these Poly Tech AK's are so collectible now.  The number imported into the U.S. is much smaller than the demand for them, particularly with the early pre-ban imports with all of the original features intact.
This particular Poly Tech AK is one of the last guns brought in, it was probably sitting in-port in U.S. customs or in storage at the importer's warehouse when the A.W. Ban was put into effect. This was one of the "transitional guns"  where the threaded muzzle was milled smooth, the bayonet lug was removed, and the model number was milled off of it to make it legal to sell.  You can see where the model name was milled off, now a shallow recess in the steel with oval-ends located just above the caliber marking on the left side of the receiver.  This was done because any AK marked "AK-47S" was no longer legal to import according to the 1994 ban.  This Poly Tech has a very nice factory blue finish on it, matching numbers on all the serial-numbered parts, and is in very good to excellent condition inside and out.  This AK was built by the Number 386 factory in China, with "386" stamped on the left side of the receiver inside an oval.    This AK has a "CW" prefix, which designates that it was from the 386 factory (C) and had a Wood stock (W).  The guns from factory number 416 had a "P" prefix.  The second letter designated stock type "W" for wood, "F" for under Folder, and "S" for Side folder.  As you can see from the pictures, this AK is a very handsome example with the original blue finish still in great shape.  The gun shows only very minor handling and storage marks, and is free from any major damage, wear, or eyesores.  The blue finish is consistent from the muzzle to the buttplate.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and all of the rivets in the gun are perfectly tight with no play whatsoever.  The Ironwood stock set on this Poly Tech is very attractive and in great shape, free from any cracks or damage.  All of the stock pieces match each other very well, and fit the gun nice and tight with no slop.  At some point in the gun's history a previous owner put a very nice and glossy coat of clearcoat on it to add some shine and protect the wood from water/oil/dirt/etc.  That clearcoat is still 100% intact with no crazing, flaking, or adhesion issues.  All of the stock hardware is intact and in great shape, and the checkered pistol grip with the steel top collar looks like-new.         As the handsome and clean exterior condition indicates, this gun has apparently been fired very little since leaving the factory and has likely spent the vast majority of it's life in storage.  The internals in this AK are near-pristine and show very little to no mechanical wear whatsoever in the places that would show wear first.  The bolt face is perfectly flat and bright with no primer-ring indention or erosion, and the gas piston assembly on the bolt carrier looks brand-new with no burned and hardened carbon on it, nor evidence of it having been polished to make it that way.  The face of the hammer, over which the bolt rides and makes contact with when in the rearward cocking stroke, shows just a touch of wear from the metal to metal contact.  All of these indicators tell us that this rifle has a very low round count thru it, and probably still has 98% of it's service life still intact.  While there is no way to know for sure, we would be very surprised if this AK has had more than 3 or 4 mags fired thru it since being sold new. The action in this AK is both very slick and smooth, and the bolt slams into battery with the barrel perfectly when released from the rearward position.  All of the controls on the gun are in perfect working order, including the safety and adjustable rear sight. The trigger in this Poly Tech is flat-out amazing for a factory trigger on a military weapon!  The single-stage trigger comes back so smoothly with no "stacking" or a feeling of it getting heavier as the trigger moves rearward; then it breaks so cleanly that it surprises you.  While the trigger travel is not ideal being a little long, the lightness and smoothness of it should have no negative effect on accuracy once you get used to it.  It is one of the best factory AK triggers we have felt in some time.  This AK comes with one 30 round flat-back Chinese magazine, also in perfect working condition. This Poly Tech AK would be a great choice for someone who wants a real top-tier AK for their collection that doesn't want to spend $4k plus for a true pre-ban Poly Tech or Norinco.  While it is in excellent condition inside and out, it is not unfired and mint, so as long as the next owner takes good care of it they could enjoy shooting it without hurting it's investment value.

PLEASE BE SURE THAT THIS GUN IS LEGAL TO OWN IN YOUR STATE BEFORE PURCHASING IT!
