Colt's Tear Gas/Flare Pen. These were marketed from the late 1960's to the early 1970's as a non-lethal self-defense alternative. Basically a pen sized zip-gun, it is simple to operate. Simply screw a cartridge into the end of the pen, pull back the little cocking knob, point at your target and let the knob go.
