Boss only made a handful of pigeon guns in the John Robertson era and as a result they are very rare. With their larger action body they are able to handle heavier loads and volume shooting. This one is beautifully engraved by Sumner with loads of case coloring and very good barrel bluing. The photos do not do justice to the richness of the case coloring. The pistol grip stock and splinter forearm are made of very highly figured Circassian walnut. At 7lb 8oz it has enough weight to provide the shooter with excellent follow through and great handling. Tight on face. Double Triggers. *** The 30” chopper lump barrels were reproofed in London in 2008 for 2-3/4” cartridges. The bluing is excellent and the bores are shiny. Topped by a raised solid concave rib which is inscribed “Boss & Co. 73 St. James’s Street London”. The right barrel is bored 0.730 with a constriction of 0.008 for a tight Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The left barrel is also bored 0.730 and has a constriction of 0.012 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is also 0.028. Excellent choking for game or clays. *** The pistol grip stock and splinter forearm are crafted from very highly figured Circassian walnut with a hand rubbed satin oil finish. The checkering is crisp. The pistol grip has a profusely engraved metal grip cap. Stock dimensions are 15-1/8” including a 1/2” pad by 1-3/8” by 1-5/8”. Cast off for the righthand shot. The gun was restocked to the highest standard in the last several years to fit the current owner and the original stock will be included. *** Boss pigeon guns do not become available very often. Not many were made and the fortunate few who own them tend to hold on to them. This one is tight on face and in top condition mechanically and cosmetically. A handsome double with sharp Sumner engraving and lots of beautiful case coloring. The handsome engraving is complimented by the highly figured Circassian walnut stock with its hand rubbed satin oil finish. *** Looking at the gun in your hands it looks almost new. Isn’t time to reward yourself for all your hard work? If not now, when? *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
