Manufactured in 1853 according to Colt Archives
Un-fluted five-shot cylinder .31 caliber with faded graphics on the cylinder, but the serial number is present and clear.
All serial numbers match: 58223.

See photos for surface metal condition.  Wood grips are original and show no marks or cracks.
Internals: Cocking spring, hammer, trigger, and lockup works normally, but the cylinder does not advance due to the missing handspring part.  The loading lever spring is weak or broken.  Both small parts are available online.
All other internal parts are in very good condition and functional.
The barrel was not removed for inspection, but the bore and cylinder walls are in a similar condition to the rest of the revolver and uncleaned. All nipples are present and the cylinder is stamped with the same serial number as the rest of the revolver.

Colt M1849 accessories include:

T
he original marked 'Colt's Patent" M1849 cal. .31 brass and blued steel bullet mold with a functional sprue cutter.
Included with the revolver when found is a canvas bag with 100+ lead ball & bullets, an Eley primer tin with primers.  Reference: page 112, Wilson: 'The Book of Colt Firearms', showing the correct .31 caliber ammo, correct Colt bullet mold, and correct brass powder flask.

A round, black Japanned ‘Eley, London’, primer tin with original primers was found with this Colt M1849

Early (pre-Civil War era) brass powder flask with 'E Pluribus Unum' on the banner. The flask spring for opening works.  Both sides have the star field, eagle, and shield, with five arrows, and crossed pistols at the bottom.  There is a minor shallow depression in the eagles’ area from squeezing most likely on both sides.  This exact same flask is shown in Wilson’s 'The Book of Colt Firearms', page 112 with a Colt M1849 revolver in the case.  The flask was found with this Colt 1849 revolver.

The reproduction wood display case is not original and is included.

This revolver and accessories were all found together in an old box in Florida.
