Description:
***  SOLD    ***   This gorgeous ejector exhibits the very best quality and finishing in keeping with the excellent reputation of this renowned Scottish gunmaker. Engraved with 100% coverage of intertwined vine leaves, stems and bunches of grapes, the overall effect is simply stunning! Alexander Henry no. 6892 was made in 1895. The gun is very original in most respects with a highly figured stock and although sleeved, this has been done using laser technology to achieve an excellent join of the new tubes with the breech piece. Carefully restored to excellent condition, the result is an extraordinarily pretty and highly 'shootable' gun for either game or clays. The gun balances 1/4” in front of the knuckle. Presented in its Maker’s Oak & Leather case with maker’s label and some accessories.  ***   The action is of normal sidelock design and features: Top lever opening, operating a 'Purdey’ bolt by way of a ‘Scott’ spindle; Top rib extension giving a 3rd bite; 9 pin bar action sidelocks; Interceptor sears; Cocking indicators; Disc set strikers with locking pins; Double triggers bolted by an automatic safety top tang slide; Deeley ejector box; Anson forend catch. The front trigger (RH barrel) is lightly chequered. Engraving style Profusely engraved with Vine Leaves & Grapes on a matt background. Beaded fences. Locks signed ‘ALEXR HENRY LTD’ in a cartouche. Action flats stamped with Deeley ejector patent details and use number. Enameled ‘S’ mounted in silver at the safety slide. Gold inlaid cocking indicators. Gun weight 6lb 13oz. Trigger pulls measure approximately: Front trigger 3 ½ lbs Rear trigger 4 ¼ lbs.   ***   The laser sleeved, steel to Damascus barrels are 28" in length, chambered for 2 ¾ " (70mm) cartridges and are of brazed 'dovetail' lump construction with soft soldered ribs. Top rib is of the smooth, concave, game type. Birmingham reproof for 70mm nitro powder cartridges in 2022. The right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.;008 for a Light Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.030. The left barrel is bored 0.731 and has a constriction of 0.013 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032.   ***   The Original Straight Hand Stock and Splinter Forend are crafted from highly figured walnut and the stock is lightly cast-off for a right-handed shot, features well defined drop points, a 3/4” leather covered recoil pad and a yellow metal oval with faint traces of engraving. There are small wood inlays above both lock plates. The forend features an engraved steel tip. The 22 lines per inch checkering has been freshened to its original sidelock design. The stock is finished with a traditional linseed oil based preparation as used on best guns by one of the top English makers. This finish uses no grain fillers to achieve its deep, smooth lustre, only many hours of alternate build and flatting off of the surface.Stock dimensions are 14-7/8” including the 3/4” leather pad by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   It is hard to imagine finding a more handsome gun than this shotgun from the famous Scottish gunmaker Alexander Henry. The combination of very highly figured French walnut and the exquisite vine leaf engraving put this sidelock in a category with few peers. A great handling game gun with grace and beauty. You don’t come across them very often.***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws.
