Description:
The Smith & Wesson Model 36 is a compact, 5-shot revolver chambered in .38 Special, and is one of Smith & Wesson's most successful and well-known handguns. It was their first revolver designed around the compact J-frame, and was developed purely to compete against the popular Colt Detective Special snub-nose revolver. First introduced in 1950, it was originally named the "Chiefs Special" to appeal to law enforcement markets, but was later changed to Model 36 in 1957. Modern variants of the Model 36 are still in production today and remain one of the most popular and successful snub-nose revolvers in history. Most common variants of the Model 36 are snub-nose models with 2" barrels, but this example has a 3" barrel starting in 1961, as this was a popular configuration from when the firearm was very first introduced. .38 S&W Special
