Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver, caliber 31 percussion, 5-shot cylinder, 5" octagon barrel, blued and case hardened finish with brass back strap and trigger guard, walnut grips, serial number 119622, made in 1856. Very solid pre-Civil War example that retains 10% case colors on the frame and 50% bright blue in the protected areas at the back of and underneath the barrel, with the balance a smooth patina. Grips are solid and have lost all the clear varnish. Cylinder retains 70% of the Stagecoach scene. Bore is good. Action is crisp with positive clicks and indexes perfectly every time. No silver plate remains on the brass parts, which have turned a mild ochre color. All locations have the matching serial number. Sharp New York City address on the barrel. Some light pitting in spots of the metal as expected with a firearm of this vintage. Appears to have a tight crack in the back strap about 1.5" behind the hammer but is unobtrusive and doesn't affect operation and is not all the way across the strap, better left alone. Despite this it's a solid overall example of the model.
