Description:
Here is a very nice 138 year-old Marlin that will make someone a good long-range lever-action shooter. Chambered in .38- 55, one of the old time favorite cartridges of the target shooters in the day. The bore in this rifle should shoot extremely well. The sights are target type; Pedersoli, at least in the rear. While I haven't shot this rifle, I've used Pedersoli sights and they are well made. Other than sights the rifle looks all original- though it's missing the crack in the forend typically found on 1881s. Here the stock is sound all around and some very nice wood it is. The oddly marked hard rubber butt-plate is shown in the Brophy book as the "Ballard" type. This is a solid, good-looking rifle which will give the new owner lots of pleasure with the results from shooting. Shipping and insurance included in the price. As an antique, this rifle can be shipped to your door in most states. No texts.
