Atkin no, 947 was made 1897-98. You don’t come across many “round body” actions from this great maker and this is an excellent and attractive example. Recently completely refurbished by the noted gunsmith, Dewey Vicknair, it has 7-pin sidelocks, auto ejectors, double triggers and auto safety. The action body and sideplates are profusely engraved with some residual case coloring. The engraving is “Best” grade and very sharp. Note the beautifully sculpted fences. Weighs 6lb 9oz. *** The original 30” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, 2-1/2” ammunition is being imported into the US again, principally from Gamebore and RST is currently producing these desirable low pressure shotshells as well. The barrels have been reblacked and the bores are shiny and bright with good wall thickness. They are topped by a raised, solid tapered concave rib. The rib is inscribed ”Henry Atkin Ltd. (From Purdey’s) 88 Jermyn St. London. S.W.” The right barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. The left barrels is also bored 0.731 and has a constriction of 0.029 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is also 0.024. *** The straghthand stock and splinter forearm are crafted from nicely figured European walnut and have recently been refinished. The checkering is crisp. The buttstock is finished off nicely with checkered ebony butt plate. Stock dimensions are 15-1/4” by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** A very handsome and great handling game gun from one of London’s great gunmakers. Recently completely refurbished it is ready for more action. Perfect for clays or game. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws.
