Description:
LOWELL ARMS Co Antique ROLLIN WHITE Pocket Revolver Made for SMITH & WESSON

VERY RARE w/EJECTOR & LOADING GATE, S&W Box

Here we present an antique British Proofed Lowell Arms Company / Rollin White Pocket Revolver in .22 caliber rimfire, manufactured circa 1867-1868 by the Lowell Arms Company in Lowell, Massachusetts. These are extremely scarce with a very limited number produced by White’s namesake company. This pistol was made just after the close of the American Civil War on behalf of Smith & Wesson, due to S&W’s inability to keep up with their orders. Rollin White was the owner of the “bored through cylinder” design that launched Smith & Wesson into greatness and had all the other revolver designers struggling to compete until the patent expired in 1869.

Of the gun manufacturers that have fallen by the wayside that collectors inevitably stumble across, one of the ones with the least information out there is the Rollin White Arms Company and the Lowell Arms Company. Norm Flayderman wrote that “the Rollin White Arms Company was formed by Rollin White in 1861 to manufacture revolvers to meet the demand which Smith & Wesson could not fill during the Civil War. Their entire production was marketed by Smith & Wesson through their normal dealers. The firm name was changed to Lowell Arms Company in 1864 (Rollin White’s association with it was terminated) following a change in management.”

The top of the barrel reads “Made For Smith & Wesson. By Lowell Arms Company. Lowell, Mass.” Included is a green Smith & Wesson box with directions for use printed inside the lid.

The overall condition is good. The action is excellent. Bright bore, with some scattered pitting. Good grips with average handling. Sharp markings. The box is in good shape with printed instruction on how to use a tip up revolver. Serial number “11845” with the “5” being stamped upside down.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3 inches.

Caliber: .22 Rimfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
