Very nice Colt Model 1855 Root .28 caliber percussion revolver with 3 1/2" octagon barrel, serial number 28936, type 3, made 1861 at the start of the Civil War, blued finish, walnut grips, spur trigger, single action, 5-shot cylinder, 2-line Hartford address. This specimen has a high amount of original frame blue, excellent walnut grips retaining most of the original varnish and no cracks/splits/repairs, all numbers matching, barrel turned a soft patina. The best part is it functions perfectly - many Roots have the cylinder pin backing out or the cylinder not turning, but this one is tight with solid half-cock and full cock, indexing right on line each time, all original nipples in the cylinder, and never refinished or restored in any way. Very hard to find in this condition, this Colt Root will surely make a nice addition to any collection.
