This particular M1897 was built by Koishikawa Arsenal (Tokyo) and has a bright unsharpened, slightly upturning tip, 15 1/2" blade with light spotting and preservative residue. The tip and edge are unaltered with a strong center circle surrounded be three partial circles makers mark stamp at the ricasso. The guard has little of the original blue with a forward, strongly curved quillon of the earliest pattern. The wooden, very good condition grips are held by two screw bolts with oval washers and have a nice deep patina. These grips do not wrap around and meet at the bottom as they do on later models. The pommel has little of the blue and is stamped with 76286. This is paired with an excellent all steel scabbard with loop and cylindrical shaped finial with half of its bluing and some surface oxidation. SOLD |
