Description: SOLD .... Antique Colt 1877 Lightning Double Action revolver with the scarce 2 1/2” barrel. Factory letter and all is correct and matching S/N's and I can make out the number 1 on the rear of the cylinder. I am sure this is the correct matching cylinder as the patina where the nickel is gone matches the rest of the revolver perfectly. Also comes with a very nice holster. This is a very nice Colt 1877 double action revolver. Factory letter says shipped in 1879 to a very large dealer Liddle & Kaeding in San Francisco California S/N 21312, .38 caliber, with a 2 1/2” barrel, nickel plated with rubber grips so it letters all the way.. About a far west shipped gun as you can get!! You can google the dealer and find it was a very large outlet and was in business for a long time and they started very early in the 1800's if I remember correctly. Very early S/N 3rd year production. The gun is mechanically excellent. It works perfectly in single and double action. A very crisp and tight gun. Locks up tight and indexes perfectly. The safety, half cock and full cock notches are solid and positive. Has the early Etched Barrel Panel caliber markings that is 100% complete. This nice little gun has quite a bit of factory nickel finish. The barrel has about 85%. The frame has about 90%. The cylinder shows about 35%.. This is common for the cylinders on these revolvers to show less finish as when they were cleaned, they removed the cylinders a gave them a good scrubbing. The back strap has about 75% . The trigger guard has about 75% as well. The metal where the nickel is gone is a smooth medium brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. No pitting or bad spots. The fire blue on the back of the hammer and trigger have faded to a darker brown patina. The markings are excellent. The grips show wear and smoothing from honest use. The right grip has been repaired very nicely as you can see in the photo. Very well done and they have a perfect snap on factory fit. This gun would be priced a little higher if the grips were better but it is what it is folks. The screw heads are clean and crisp and not all burred up with fire blue remaining on some of the protected ones. The bore is near excellent with very strong and deep rifling with just some very minor frosting. NO pitting or bad spots at all.. The cylinder chambers are very clean with some minor crud or pin pricks towards the end of two of the chambers. Nothing bad at all for a black powder revolver that is 144 years old!! Just a very nice and very honest ole Colt.. The holster is a medium brown full flap with sewn and riveted belt loop on the back.. Excellent and solid stitching throughout. NO markings but a F13 ½ on the belt loop ?? Fits the gun very well but don't know if it was made for this model of revolver or not.. I just found it in my large stock pile of antique gun leather and decided to sell it with this gun.. Would probably fit a number of small pocket revolvers. Over all this is a nice and solid gun that shows honest use but never abused and It Works perfectly. Factory letter and holster all included. These shorter 2 1/2” barreled 1877's are not near as common as the longer 3 1/3” ones that you normally find.
