Colt Baby Dragoon revolver, caliber 31 percussion. 5-shot cylinder with 4" octagon barrel and no ramrod, square back trigger guard, blued and case hardened finish with brass back strap and trigger guard, walnut grips, serial number 13193, made in 1850 during the height of the California Gold Rush. Very solid example that retains 10% case colors on the frame and hammer, 5% bright blue in the protected areas at the back of the barrel, with the balance a smooth patina. Grips are solid and with most of the clear varnish worn away and a tight grain check in the middle of the right grip. Cylinder retains 85% of the Stagecoach scene. Bore is good. Action is crisp with positive clicks and indexes perfectly every time; nice, tight lock-up with a strong spring. About 5% silver plate remains on the brass parts, which have turned a mild ochre color. All locations have the matching serial number. Sharp 2-line New York City address on the barrel. Some light pitting in spots of the metal as expected with a firearm of this vintage. Grades NRA Antique Very Good.
