Description: General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1927, 12 Gauge, 7lbs. 12oz., Chokes F/F, LOP 14 1/16", DAH 1 7/8", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 443502 The Ithaca Gun Company came out with their best and last model of side x side in 1926, the New Ithaca Double, known as the NID in the shooter/collector world. The Ithaca NID was produced into the late 1940’s when American double gun production pretty much ended across all makers. The NID Model was mechanically excellent and the strongest of the American doublegun makers with its rotary bolt locking mechanism, coil springs instead of flat springs, and a super-fast lock time. The strength of the Ithaca NID is second only to the Winchester Model 21, as the internal workings require less steel to be removed from the forged action than most other boxlock designs. This fine Ithaca NID Grade 5E, sn443502 built in 1927, is a RARE, HIGH-GRADE GUN. Walt Snyder’s seminal book, “THE ITHACA GUN COMPANY, FROM THE BEGINNING” notes that there were only 155 Grade 5 NID guns ever made in all gauges. THIS IS ONE OF ONLY ABOUT 100 EVER PRODUCED IN 12 GAUGE, AND ONLY ABOUT 1 of 10 SO MADE WITH AN ENGLISH STYLE STOCK. RARE INDEED! ALL THE FINISHES ON THIS GUN ARE FACTORY ORIGINAL, UNTOUCHED, AND 99% INTACT. The 30” barrels retain 99% factory blue, are fitted with double ivory beads, tight ribs, and bright, mirror shiny bores. The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face, with the top lever way right of center. The action and mechanics are excellent throughout, the gun being a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY SHOOTING WARRANTY. Our gunsmiths stripped the action and forend iron to the smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all, inspected all for integrity and function, then lubricated and assembled. We know this gun is ready for decades more service. The engraving is clear and sharp, with Sterling Silver bird inlays and 98% vivid factory case color, perfect screws…stunning! The wood is fabulous, highly figured on both sides, with elaborate fleur-de-lis checkering that is clean and sharp, superb wood-to-metal fit and no cracks or repairs anywhere. The grain runs perfectly straight through the wrist for structural integrity, and the comb is a wide target style comb to help spread felt recoil. The factory Silvers pad has mushroomed and turned hard, but we left it intact to preserve the amazing factory originality to the gun. THE NEW OWNER CAN HAVE OUR GUNSMITHS INSTALL A NEW PAD IF THEY SO CHOOSE, AND A PAD OF THEIR CHOICE INCLUDING A FINE, PURDEY STYLE LEATHER COVERED PAD, within 5 days of purchase. For those that like wholly original rare shotguns, this one is for you. The only thing done to this gun since 1927 was thorough cleaning and inspection. The stock dimensions (see specs below) are modern and shootable. At 7 ¾ pounds and balancing perfectly 1/8” forward of the hinge pin, this gun is a shooting machine. What a gorgeous gun! To buy a hand fit, hand engraved and checkered shotgun like this today would cost well over $30,000. This gun can be owned for a fraction of that cost and will continue to go up in value as you enjoy its use. RARITY, CONDITION, AND DESIRABLE FEATURES IS WHAT DRIVES THE COLLECTOR/SHOOTER MARKETPLACE.
