Made in 1935, this is absolutely the single finest all original 16 ga. Fox I've seen or owned. An absolute killer all original gun!
Made with 2-1/2" Chambers. 28" Bbls with matted rib are marked "CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL" "SAVAGE ARMS CORP., UTICA, N.Y. U.S.A." on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with grade, Savage proof, and SN. Bbls are marked with striking weight "3". Case hardened small frame action has all correct markings on water table, and features automatic safety and Kautzky single selective trigger. Action is engraved in late "A" style with approx 60% coverage large scrolling shaded acanthus. "ANSLEY H. FOX" is in riband on each side. Blued trigger guard engraved on bow and has SN on tang. Beautiful American walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14" over its original hard rubber buttplate.
Gun is accompanied by its orig yellowish brown cardboard box with matching end label, with specifications for this gun stamped in appropriate places. Box contains waxed paper packing material including bits of New York Times, May 13, 1937. PROVENANCE: Estate collection of Dana Tauber.
This gun is exceptionally fine, very close to new, with only a few light marks in metal finishes, and some light scratches in wood. Mechanically perfect. Box is excellent with some scuffs and fading of green center on label. A really neat small frame Fox.
