Smith Maker. Syracuse, NY "F" Grade10ga Hammer Gun SN 12829 The L C Smith Hammer guns “Made by L C Smith, Syracuse, NY” were produced from 1884 to 1887 when the company was bought by Hunter Brothers. Less than 3000 L C Smith Syracuse hammer guns in 7 grades – F, E, D, C, B, A, & AA were made in the serial number range 10,000 – ca. 25,600. The one offered here is a “F” grade with serial number 12829 made in about 1885. It is in excellent condition with all the original parts and finish. The 30” Stub Twist barrels retain excellent pattern and excellent bores choked full and modified. It is chambered for 2 7/8th shells. This model was the first to have the famous, and much copied, rotary bolt designed by Alaxander Brown. It locks-up like new and the barrels ring line a bell, Other noteworthy features are rotary barrel check, and rebounding locks made on Lords patent. These locks are far superior to the back action lock made after 1900. The action is free of any rust or corrosion and still has about 20% original case colors in protected areas around the hammers and top lever. The butt stock and fore-end are in nice original condition with original varnish and excellent checkering. The original butt plate appears almost new. There are only a few marks on the stock. Dimensions: LOP = 14 ¼”, DC = 2 ¼”, DH = 3 ¾”. A very nice old antique hammer gun for your collection rarely seen in this condition. And it is ready to shoot.
