The Remington “Split Breech” Carbine holds a number of distinctions in the history of American firearms. The carbine is considered to be the first metallic cartridge long arm to be produced by the famous Remington Arms Company. The “Split Breech” was also the last pattern of military carbine to be delivered to the US government during the American Civil War. This particular example is in fair condition having it's finish worn over time to a warm grey patina and some pitting. There are some cracks in the stock near the butt plate. Mechanically everything works like it should. The barrel band is a little loose. This cool rifle would be a great addition to mancave wall or a great addition to a collection of Civil War militaria.
