Description: General Specs: Fox, Year 1927, 16 Gauge, 5lbs. 15oz., Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 7/8", DAH 2 3/8", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 302769 Gunners searching for vintage American double guns realize that Ansley H. Fox created what he claimed to be “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”, and there is reason to agree. Fox wisely built his 16ga. guns on the diminutive 20ga. frame, bringing to you the lightest, best balanced of all the American double guns. If you have been searching for a graded Fox 16ga, you have noticed how few are available. Only 2500 Fox A Grades in 16ga. were ever produced. Few are offered for sale and if you do find one, they are poorly described and the photographs tell you little, so how do you know which gun to buy? IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES. At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, and our gunsmiths clean and service each as needed. This gun’s action was stripped to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed, all parts inspected for integrity and function, lubricated, and reassembled, providing a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, a $275 service in our shop, and includes A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. THIS FOX, SN302769 built in Philadelphia PA in 1927, has been completely vetted by VFI and needs nothing…she is ready for decades more service. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS FOX HAS FACTORY ORIGINAL METAL AND THAT WOOD HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO AN ENGLISH GRIP STOCK OF FINE ENGLISH WALNUT AND A LONG 14 7/8” LOP TO BUTTPLATE. IF YOU ARE A TALLER SHOOTER, THIS IS YOUR DREAM GUN! WEIGHING JUST 5LBS. 15OZ. AND BALANCED TO PERFECTION 1/8” AHEAD OF THE HINGE PIN, 28”…A FINE A.H. FOX UPLAND GUN THAT WILL FIT YOU AND LOOKS AMAZING. The wood to metal fit, screws, checkering, and all mechanics are superb. The 28” #4 weight barrels choked IC/M, are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun, have mirror bores, and tight ribs. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO FIND 2 ½” 16GA. SHELLS TO SHOOT. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” FIELD LOADS THROUGH OUR GUNS. This is a $360 service in our shop. Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for softer recoil and better patterns. The gun has excellent stock dimensions (see specifications below). If you want an upland gun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and backed by a reputable Fox expert. Everything has already been done, including being made safe to shoot modern, readily available ammunition. What a “killer” bird gun we have here, just in time for this hunting season! THIS IS YOUR GUN! Don’t hesitate, it won’t last long. Thanks for looking.
