Chambered for .45 Schofield, and .45 Long Colt. It is marked on the barrel "SCOFIELD" to take advantage of the S&W SCHOFIELD reputation of the day . On the lower left side of the frame "BELGIUM"and CFW, that stands for "Center Fire Western" . The other markings are on the barrel, just inline with the cylinder pin. There are 3 BELGIUM proof marks, also on the back of the cylinder are 3 more proof marks. The barrel measures 4 1/4 inches and has a very clean shinny shoot-able bore with strong rifling. This is a top-break, auto-eject, double action six shot revolver based on the S&W Patent Style. The double action and single action both functions perfectly. There is a little pitting with no remaining blue. or rust on the gun. The main features of this gun, is the fact that some bunkhouse cowboy artist made a pair of Stag and bone grips for it and the use of the Scofield name. The grips are in very good condition with no cracks or chips and are worth $300 on their own. This would make an interesting addition to the Smith & Wesson collection to show the period patent infringements of the day, c1870's. It is a piece of history that you can now own at reasonable price. You can find these advertised in the Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery catalogs of the 1880s.
