Description:
Highly engraved Gastinne Renette of Paris live pigeon gun in 12 gauge. Detailed ribbons, scroll and vine engraving with carved fences. Many unusual features including a Greener style side safety, WC Scott style forend fastening system and optional but not installed barrel selector and ejectors (notice the cut out for the ejector trips and ejectors). Gun presently is an extractor as were many live pigeon guns of that era. To the right of the serial number on the flats of the action is stamped "1897". This could possibly be a date of production which would make sense as the Anson & Deely action was invented in 1875. Additionally, no A&D patent number was stamped on the action further indicating that patent protection had expired. On the top tang the words "Droit" and "Gauche" are engraved which translates to Right and Left and refers to the non installed barrel selector. The trigger functions as a traditional non selective trigger with the right barrel firing first. Leopold Bernard (famous barrel maker that even Parker used on their high grade shotguns) steel barrels are 30" with a light mod (12/1000) choke in the right and full (37/1000) in the left. These are very typical European pigeon chokes. Chambers are 2 3/4". Mirror bores that measure .727. The wide and tapered top rib offers an excellent sighting plane for fast moving pigeons. The gun has excellent stock dimensions. LOP is 13 1/4" to a rear position single trigger blade (stock feels like 14 1/4 if it had traditional double triggers). Drop at comb - 1 3/8". Drop at heel - 2". Notice the"AF" stamps on the water table of the barrels. Perhaps the gun was purchased in the white from August Francotte. The gun is tight on face. Barrels ring nicely. No cracks to the wood. The overall weight is 7 LBS 5 1/8 OZ. Tested on the international trap range with great enjoyment. Shipping is $75. A very cool and unusual gun that would stand up to heavy use.
