Description:
For Sale is a very nice B.S.A. & M. Co. 1895 Lee-Metford Mark II magazine-fed rifle chambered in .303 British, complete with a beautiful bayonet.  The right side of the action, which typically provides the original manufacturer information, shows (Crown), V.R., B.S.A.&M.Co., 1895, II.  The Crown and V.R. (Victoria Regina) are a tribute to Queen Victoria, ruler of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland when this Mark II rifle was originally manufactured by B.S.A. & M. Co. (Birmingham Small Arms & Metals Co. - later just BSA) in 1895.  The left side of the action denotes the rifle's conversion to a Charger Loading Lee Enfield Mark I* in 1908.  The rifle is in overall Good condition with some light handling marks and wear consistent with its age.  The 30-1/4" barrel has a decent bore with no visible pitting.  The grooves show some darkness and carbon deposits but maintains nice rifling throughout.  The English walnut stock and forend present very nicely, showing the expected light dings and mild abrasions from the rifle's many years of service.  All of the original proofs and markings remain strong and clear.  Some of the screw heads show some slot wear.  All original hardware remains intact including the magazine cutoff and volley sights.  The bolt is mismatched numbered "639R" but is of the correct type.  The heel of the buttplate shows regimental markings "7 LL / 132" likely indicating the 7th Battalion, Kings Liverpool Regiment, part of the Territorial Force that saw extensive service during the First World War.  The 12" double-edged bayonet is also in Good condition with some light handling marks/finish wear.  It slides on effortlessly and locks in nice and tight with very minimal play.  This rifle is a fine example of a rare Metford/Enfield variant and a wonderful piece of British military history.  It comes from a large estate of British military rifles, many of which will be listed in the very near future.  Feel free to call or text with any questions or for more pictures.
