Description:
A wonderful Colt Model 1849 Pocket Model .31 Caliber Revolver with an inscription Lieut. P. Egan, 95th P.V. probably presented to him upon his promotion as a 1st Lieutenant.  Then a lengthy history through many battles with him resigning as a captain in September of 1864.  All parts of the revolver appear to be original, even the wedge screw.  The 95th Regiment (Pennsylvania Volunteers) was entirely recruited in Philidelphia.  Many Union Officers carried Colt's 1849 Pocket Models and this revolver shows evidence of careful use throughout the war, with very interesting wear pattern on the grips, no doubt from belt carry.  These documented Colt revolvers that saw actual usage during the conflict are quite rare and certainly very, very interesting when attached to an actual Officer and Regiment.
