1862 Scarce E. A. PRESCOTT Long Frame POCKET Revolver CIVIL WAR Antique
SERIAL NUMBER “87” with CIRCULAR SIDE PLATE
Here we present an antique E. A. Prescott “Pocket” Model Revolver, made circa 1862-67, in Worcester, Massachusetts. This scarce Civil War revolver is estimated to be one of only three hundred that were made of each of the two styles (Belt and Pocket) made by Prescott. This is likely due to the fact that these were patent infringements on Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White Patent for a bored through cylinder. Although similar in appearance to the early S&W revolvers, this one was manufactured with a solid frame. For such a small production these came with a variety of different characteristics: i.e. this one has a “long frame” and round sideplate on the frame, which is a rarer variant.
The overall condition is fair. Patina throughout. The action functions but does not hold the full-cock notch reliably. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The cylinder arbor pin has been replaced or modified as you see it. Grips are solid.
