Description:
Here is an early 1st Model Dragoon, #1428, cased with all accoutrements. These early Model Dragoons are extremely rare and extremely desireable not only to the to the Colt collector but to all historic firearms collectors because very few of the original, early Dragoons survive. This is a wonderful COPY of the extremely rare 1st Model Dragoon. Whoever built this gun was very knowledgeable of the early 1st Model Dragoons and paid close attention to the smallest detail. Some of the early features that this gun has and which distinguishes it from later Models are the tiny serial numbers which were also used on the civilian Walker and the Whitneyville Dragoon. They used these tiny #s until they wore out. Another early feature here is the placement of the Colts Patent US marking which is closer to the center of the frame than the later Models.
This gun has a beautiful greyish-brown patina and the correct barrel address. The cylinder scene was rolled by hand just like all the early Colts were. This revolver is mechanically perfect.
The walnut case has the correct coffin-style lid with a gorgeous grain on top and an ebony keyhole cover in front. It has a dark blue velvet interior.
The flask, bullet mold and cap tin compliment this cased outfit and help it attain showcase readiness.
